Via the USAID-funded Azerbaijan Pandemic Response Activity (APR), WHO Country Office in Azerbaijan aims to strengthen the Emergency Care Systems (ECS) and its services, training, and standards. The APR activity is implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), the State Agency for Mandatory Health Insurance (SAMHI), Administration of the Regional Medical Divisions (TABIB) and medical education institutions.
The target group of the courses is 80 invited participants (Emergency Care System Capacity Group, Emergency Unit staff members of selected project hospitals, health and care workforce, and lay rescuer / school teachers from Sumgait). The duration of the courses is 2 days (morning and afternoon sessions).
The aim of the Basic Life Support course is to upskill the participants to perform the application steps effectively in accordance with the guidelines against loss of consciousness, respiratory and circulatory arrestand airway obstructions.
Basic Emergency Ultrasound course aims to improve the frequency and variety of use of bedside ultrasonography evaluation by emergency care physicians, which will increase the reliability of the procedural interventions and, therefore, the quality of patient care, as well as the possibility of 24/7 quick diagnostic solutions in emergency departments, and to provide nationwide usage standards.
The goal of the Endotracheal Intubation and Rapid Sequence Intubation course is to help the participants to gain skills to protect the airway with a cuffed endotracheal tube as quickly as possible while minimizing coughing, straining, and vomiting with secure airway placement.
The goal of the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course is to help the participants to gain knowledge and skills to achieve the best possible outcome for individuals who are experiencing a life-threatening event benefiting from a set of clinical guidelines for the urgent and emergent treatment of life-threatening cardiovascular conditions that will cause or have caused cardiac arrest using advanced medical procedures, medications, and techniques.

The symposium aims to discuss and improve the future vision of Azerbaijan in the field of Emergency Care Systems. The target group of the symposiums is policy makers, academicians, hospital directors, emergeny care directors and providers from the Minsitry of Health, State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance, TABIB and Ministry of Emergency Situtaions.
The syposium will be held in hybrid format. 200 seats will be available fore thsoe invited and preregistered participants from the institutions. Registration is required for online participants. Only face-to face particiapants will receive certificate of attendance.

In October 2021, WHO CO Azerbaijan held a 2-day national Emergency Care Systems Assessment (ECSA) consensus meeting. On 10-11 February 2022, the development of an Emergency Care Roadmap meeting was carried out to turn the main outputs of that meeting – a list of 13 Action Priorities to guide emergency care systems development in Azerbaijan – into a Roadmap for action. As a result, a ready-to-implement roadmap was drafted.
This workshop aims to develop the ECS roadmap in detail for action and integration with 13 Action Priorities through four working groups of 68 members.
Azerbaijan Health Authorities and WHO Project Team will facilitate workshops.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is the most important emergency lifesaving procedure for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. It usually takes at least several minutes for the pre-hospital emergency care services to arrive at the scene, and with every minute passing, the victim’s chance of survival rapidly decreases. On the contrary, early CPR can increase the chance of survival by a factor of up to four. Therefore, bystander CPR is so important.
Through training and educating citizens on CPR procedures and identifying a cardiac arrest attack, lots of lives can be saved. Given this, a demonstration of CPR activity will take place in the form of flash mob/short training in a crowded shopping mall in Baku.
The event is planned to take place at 15:00-17:00 on December 18th to raise public awareness about the importance of learning CPR skills for saving lives and provide participants with the basic skills to perform CPR.
